Background

Mariam has spent 2 semesters out of school because of lack of school fees. Both her parents died in 2010 when she was just 2 years old and she was left under the care of her auntie who she stays with in the slum. She has 2 siblings and they have been staying in the village ever since her parents died.

She stays in a small single room with her aunt and her child. Her aunt fries cow intestines from outside their home and she earns 1 USD or less a day which is very little to cater for the family basics and pay for Mariam’s school fees.

Sometimes they even lack food and are supported by the neighbors with some little food occasionally. From her small income, she struggles to pay for school fees for Mariam at a nearby small school.

Mariam has spent 2 terms out of school due to lack of school fees and her aunt is not sure when she will go back to school. Mariam loves school and she dreams of getting a sponsor that can support her stay in school.

Mariam is seeking for an opportunity to be sponsored so that she can attain a bright future.
